My Dream Job

Mydream job is to be a manager of a leading organization. Since I was young, I have had and demonstrated skill and characteristics of a good leader. For instance, I am always at the forefront with suggestions and ideas of how to undertake a project or an assignment. I am normally willing to share my opinion. I am also very persuasive, and although I am flexible enough to follow other people’s suggestions, I have a way with words. I am also future-oriented and I to see beyond the basic. I strive to see beyond the obvious, and I am keen to detail. I can see the broad picture in situations and thus able to establish the right course of action.
I dream of becoming a manager because the job entails working with people. I am naturally social and have excellent interpersonal skills. I also desire to implement my idea of an ideal manager. Most organizations still uphold the perception that managers and leaders, in general, are untouchable. There is an invisible wall that exists between people in senior management levels and the subordinate staff. The subordinate staff fears the senior management and unfortunately, the fear is often mistaken for a show of respect. The gap between the senior management and the rest of the employees has led to problems in managing most organizations. Problems such as strikes, go-slows, underperformance and high employee turnover become common. From experience, I have worked in an organization where the management was feared. It was an eye-opening experience as I encountered employees who work out of fear rather than motivation. Complaints on any work related issue would lead to intimidation and threats of job loss. Communication was also poor and was through memos placed on public signboards across the organization. Organizational changes such as reshuffles, promotions, and demotions were always a surprise.  It was no secret that most employees were seeking alternative employment opportunities. I left the organization shortly since I was working as an intern. However, the experiences made me desire to be a manager and show other managers and senior persons that management can be different.
As a manager, I believe I can champion for improved management and employee relations. I intend to integrate employees into critical organizational decisions.  Additionally, I desire to establish an open-door policy and ensure that it works in the organization. I aim to ensure that employees are aware that they can access the senior management on any issues. I believe organizations can grow and realize their objectives if the management and the employees can work as one team.  I believe it is possible for a manager to work with his or her employees rather than be the domineering and authoritative boss. I want to be the manager that is at ease with employees. I want to the manager who can work with his subordinates to complete a task rather than delegate all responsibilities and expect excellent results.  I want to the manager that can communicate with his employees and thus able to iron out any problems before they interfere with employee performance. I know I have a long way to go but am on the right track. I want to get the best academic platform and work with mentors who hold the same sentiments as me.
