Employment Opportunities for Database Developer

Data plays an important role as every transaction is built on data. Information becomes more available in this technology world as it can get easily accessed from tablets, social media, and mobile applications. For that reason, it becomes more critical for organizations to protect and treasure their data and information. Data developers are information technology specialists who are employed by organizations to manage their data and information by protecting, implementing security measures and ensuring that the company’s sensitive data do not fall into the wrong hands. Besides, they are responsible for ensuring that the organization’s data gets stored in an organized manner for easy and efficient retrieval purposes. In short, a database developer’s work is to ensure that the company’s database functions in the desired way. In the process, they may upgrade, fine tune and test the database modifications whenever it is needed (Franks, 2012).
The role of database developers is very complex, and therefore the professional should possess high accuracy level, high level of attention, and great passion for solving problems for they are critical elements of the profession. Besides, a database developer should possess great skills in communication. During his/her career, a database developer is expected to interact with other professionals and even team up with them. Some of the professional that a database developer may team up with may include managers and computer programmers. For example, a database developer may team up with a programmer who develops an information system whereby his main role shall be to design, implement and integrate the database with the software application. A database administrator can get employed within a wide range of areas within the private and public sector, while others may work as consultants to major organizations. The statistics indicate that there has been an increasing growth of database administrator’s jobs over the past few years at they can work in almost every organizations that apply the use of information system.
The database becomes the backbone of every website or application today. This means for every software to function in a way that it is more meaningful, it has to have access to the database in one way or another. There are some database technologies that a database administrator is expected to be aware of before embarking on the employment as a database administrator. Firstly is the Structured Query Language (SQL), a language that is mostly used in much relational database management system. With the knowledge of the SQL, a database administrator can perform functions that may include updates and retrieval of data. There are five SQL-based database solutions that are widely used in the history of humankind. These include MySQL, Microsoft Access, DB2, Oracle, and SQLite. The other database technologies include cloud database solutions, no SQL database solutions and other database related tools such as SQLBuddy and Bigdump (Gibson, 2000).
By carrying out an action research, my objective was to identify the career opportunities of a database administrator. The purpose of the research shall involve identification of possible solutions to unemployment within the society. The research paper features the history of action research, an overview of action research and the justifications. The research aims at showing the benefits of applying action research in identifying the opportunities within database administration career. At the climax, we shall realize that action research is very critical in the identification of database developer opportunities.

Methodology
Overview of Action Research
The birth of action researchers began from 1951 when it got founded by  Kurt Lewin, who was a German Psychologist by then. The idea behind action research was to study how the human behaviors as well as actions could get converted into autonomous and leadership values. Lewin aimed at realizing two main purposes in his model, that is, to comprehend positive transformation and secondly, to generate knowledge and theory. Lewin’s research was based on the emphasis that researchers should act as a social revolution expert who is skilled enough to assist and motivate the employees. Besides, Lewin adds that systematic research is obtained through collaboration with academic scholars and researchers. The main objective of action research is to bring about social change. By using action research, a researcher does not need to examine information but also to become active practice participant. Consequently, a researcher may easily mediate and bring transformation. The advantage is that the researcher shall comprehend problems in an improved way (McNiff, 2002).
Action research progresses through a spiral that includes series of planning, action (that is, implementation), observation, and reflection. A good way of beginning an action research mission involves the collection of some preliminary data in a region of general importance, then reflection, and then making a plan for the transformed action. An extra way of beginning involves making an exploratory change, collecting data of the occurring events, reflecting and then building more refined action plans. In mutual cases, matters and tolerances, on the one way, and the training themselves on the other, developing and evolving through action research process. Nonetheless, it would formulate better significance if we begin with issues that concern us in undertaking out our professional roles (Stringer, 1999).
Action research is founded on several principles for it to turn out to be effective. Kurt Lewin realized these action research conditions as effective. To begin with, the researcher requires being a problem solver. Employee or client must be at the backbone position of the research. Furthermore, the current situation should be subsequent of the discussion. Also, the research should involve direct and indirect thought of the incidence or process. At last, a useful theory must get developed steadily from proposals and findings.
Action research representation is a six-step process that includes identifying problems, diagnosing problems, and formulating action hypothesis, experimenting, and action evaluating results and concluding and generalizing. The researcher should adhere to these procedures so as to generate effective results (Institute of Medicine (U.S.), Pechura & Martin, 1991).
Action Research Justification
Action research is an important tool used in organizing or instituting development. By utilizing action research, companies can make excellent decisions concerning common matters. Action research may be referred as practical, operational or developmental research. In this circumstance, the researchers are objected at discovering actual solutions to actual issues in the organization or community. The research is more regimented, unlike other research practices as it entails a series of steps that should get pursued strictly. Furthermore, being a cooperation approach, the research allows experts to combine knowledge to identify solutions. The best resolution out of substitute solutions is comprehended out of the research, thereby making the research process more effective. Intellectuals and practitioners utilize action research in the exploration of issues and to identify knowledge (Collaborative Action Research Network., 1993). In this case, we are trying to identify areas of employment for a database developer. As an action researcher, he/she should identify the gaps that need to get solved or the problems that exist in the market. Besides, the researcher is supposed to identify the possible ways that a database developer can employ himself rather than seek employment from companies and organizations.
