The balancing of the
nurse to patient level is eligible to make sure that the safety of the patients
is addressed. The implementation of such recommendations is challenged by the
fact that the healthcare industry has taken the direction of being governed by
eh legislation such that laws are passed and allowed to control the operations
of the hospitals. The changing of a passed law is quite difficult, and this
cuts off the efforts of implementing the equalization of the nurse to patient
ratio. The fact that the inflow rate of patients and the duration that patients
take within the hospitals does vary is the same challenge. If the ratio for
delivery is set to 1:3 yet the inflow of expectant mothers triples without the
increase in the number of the nurses, then it is realized that the efforts get
harbored.
The challenge of the
difference in the nurse level of education, the experience, skills and
knowledge also demands the allocation of more numbers to given medical service,
for instance, intensive care unit requires experienced and knowledgeable staff.
The failure to provide adequate staffing decisions is another issue that
reduces the efforts of equalizing the nurse to patient ratio. The different
treatments rather service delivery also get the healthcare administrators
difficulty in allocating and balancing the ration, for instance, the
psychiatric requires 1 nurse to 6 patients, telemetry 5:1, intensive care unit
2:1 hence equalizing and balancing is a problem.
The other identical
challenges are the environmental issues alongside the variations in technology.
The current technology applied requires skilled personnel which have rendered
some nurses to be on demand to operating such technologies hence allocating
such staff to other duties is an issue hence balancing of the workload becoming
an issue as the recruitment of the nurses is not considered in all cases.
