The health of a person is influenced by several factors,
some which are physical, emotional, or psychological. There are many choices to
make regarding what to do and what not to do since every choice has an impact
on our health. For one to be fit for life, they have to identify certain
wellness lifestyles and implement them appropriately. The self-reflective essay
entails a personal implementation of a wellness lifestyle.
Identifying
the Wellness Lifestyles
Right from my childhood days, I have always had a concern
about my wellbeing after observing how people are affected by the lifestyles
they adopt. I have never wanted to become obese since it would lower my
self-esteem and also limit my socialization with others. Thus, for the purpose
of the essay, I will discuss three proper wellness lifestyles that I took. I
conducted a comprehensive inquiry and research on the best wellness lifestyles
to adopt and narrowed down to controlling my weight gain, observing my diet,
and being physically active. The control of my weight is due to the need to
keep fit for life and avoid the common lifestyle-related illnesses like high
blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. From research,
uncontrolled weight gain leads to obesity which is a risk factor for high blood
pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, and high LDL cholesterol
among others. I identified the need to observe my diet since unhealthy diets
are a risk factor for the lifestyle-related diseases and subject the body to
malnutrition. I also identified being physically active as a proper wellness
lifestyle since it helps to burn excess calories thereby eliminating any build
up of cholesterol.
Effective
implementation
The choice of the wellness lifestyles without effective
implementation strategies would be non-beneficial. Hence, I choose to control
my weight gain by having regular checks of my weight and comparing it with my
height to give the BMI results. I ensure that I perform regular physical
exercises especially the morning hours that helps to control my weight. I also
take only the necessary foods and avoid the craving for the fast foods which
easily add on weight. I learned that I had to change my routine schedules to
accommodate a session for physical exercise that helped to control my weight.
For the diet, I consulted from nurse practitioners who
advised me on how to take healthy diets selectively. I usually take a balanced
breakfast with protein, vegetable, and little starch and also lunch, but the
dinner is usually full of fruits. The method has worked out well for me since I
no longer struggle with some common diseases that persist due to poor
nutrition. I am also keen on taking excessive fats during meals that would
otherwise end up clogging my blood vessels in the long run.
Regarding the physical exercises, I have a program which
I follow to the letter. I wake up very early in the morning to do unstructured
physical exercises and ensure that I have some time to walk for a considerable
distance and back. The method helps to keep fit, and my body feels relaxed.
Conclusion
Following the changed wellness lifestyle, I believe that
my personal behavior and attitude will have a significant impact on improving
my fitness, health, and well-being. I believe that my acceptance of who I am
and understanding what I want to achieve by implementing the wellness fitness
initiatives are the driving factors to being healthy, improving fitness, and
well-being for the rest of my life. Our bodies can only do what we teach them
to do, and hence, the goal towards a healthy and fit lifestyle starts with our
personal decisions to change our lifestyles for the better. I believe that my
choice of wellness lifestyle is fundamental in defining my body
well-being.
