Avian influenza viruses
The
severe pandemic of the Hong
Kong Flue (1968) and the
Asian flu of 1957, TOOK almost one million to two
million lives among the elderly in these countries.
Since the First World War, there have
been few cases
of a devastating pandemic. However
with the rise of
globalization, more risks of theses pandemic have increased and continue
to increase. One of them is the
H1N1 swine flu that initially
came from Mexico and has affected many people
from around the world (Smith,
et al. 2009). Cases of H1N1 swine
flu are in Guatemala, New Zealand, and Australia the United Kingdom, Spain, United States, Brazil, Peru and d Canada. Therefore, the avian influenza virus is a global pandemic that continues
to threaten the lives of people around the world. It
is a condition that requires
continued control and vigilance, especially in animals.
The
world Health Organization (WHO) indicates
that H1N1 has a pandemic potential and
increased surveillances have to be established (WHO, 2015).
The organization calls upon national agencies such as the
CDC of the United States to take
the necessary measures of screening foreigners coming into the country.
Also, the locals visiting other countries
need to be screened on their arrival day. The
cases of suspected swine flu in the country
have increased to about
2,000. These reports led to the establishment
of a public health emergency when forty people were confirmed
to have contracted the disease. It
is highly competent to follow the recommendations
of the WHO when dealing with international health crises like the swine flu for
governments to take the right measures
in protecting its citizens.
